Accessibility statement
Writr is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, and every change is checked against that standard before it ships.
What this means in practice
- Everything works with a keyboard alone. A skip link is the first thing you reach on each page, and focus is always visible.
- The book reader can be driven with the arrow keys, Page Up and Page Down, Home and End, or with the labelled Previous and Next buttons. Dragging a page is an extra, never the only way.
- The reader announces the current page to screen readers as it changes. Every illustration in a picture book carries a text description.
- Motion respects your system's reduced-motion setting: pages crossfade instead of turning. The page-turn sound is off by default.
- Text and controls meet the 4.5:1 and 3:1 contrast ratios in both the adult and kid themes, and in light and dark mode.
- Pages reflow down to 320 pixels wide and text can be enlarged to 200 percent without anything being cut off.
Known limitations
- The three-dimensional page turn is decorative. Its drag gesture has no keyboard equivalent, because the buttons and arrow keys already do the same job.
- Books written by other users may contain images whose descriptions were written by the author. We require a description on every image but cannot guarantee its quality.
