Chapter 1

Dear Diary, Obviously

Monday, 7:02 a.m.

Dear Diary,

First, let's get something straight. I'm only writing in you because Mum said "a journal might help you process your feelings," and I told her I process my feelings the normal way, by telling other people what they did wrong. But then she bought you. You're pink, you have a tiny lock, and the lock is cute, so you're staying.

The front steps part like I'm on a red carpet. Tamsin and Odette were waiting at the bottom, holding my iced coffee and my phone charger. This is their job. They don't have the title officially, but it's understood.

"Rubi, you look incredible," said Tamsin.

"I know," I said. "Your fringe looks like it lost a fight, though."

She laughed so hard she nearly dropped the coffee. That's how you know I'm good at this. I can say something absolutely savage and people thank me for it.

Odette asked if I'd heard about the new girl. I had not. I said so, rudely, because who has time for news that doesn't involve me?
